De tentoonstelling ‘Underpainting’, de eerste solo tentoonstelling van de Italiaanse schilder Marco Eusepi (Anzio 1991), zal plaatsvinden in het Albert Van Dyck museum te Schilde van 13 tot 27 september, in samenwerking met KoMASK- Royal Society for Encouragement of Fine Arts. Als uitkomst van een verblijf van vier maanden, maakt de kunstenaar een connectie met de Vlaamse picturale traditie door te werken volgens hoofdthema’s, zoals landschappen en bloemen, en dit om te zetten in een eigen interpretatie. Door dit te doen gaat Marco Eusepi in dialoog met de Vlaamse schilder Albert Van Dyck, vooral refererend naar zijn animistische schilderijen uit de jaren 30, deze werken zullen tentoongesteld worden in het museum. Samenhangend met het onderzoek van Marco Eusepi, verwijst ‘Underpainting’ naar schilderen als een complex en gestratificeerd systeem, waar picturale lagen steeds op elkaar inwerken in een voortdurend onderzoek naar de realiteit. Het delen van een existentiële behoefte achter de representatie van de natuur, doet de kunstenaar door het te verwerken in bewegingen en materiaal, waarin de geologische lagen van het landschap terug op het doek komen in de vorm van picturale stratificatie, een condensatie van de geleefde ruimte.

The exhibition Underpainting, first solo show in Belgium of the Italian artist Marco Eusepi (Anzio 1991), will take place in the Albert Van Dyck’s Museum in Schilde from 13th to 27th of September, in partnership with KoMASK-Royal society for Encouragement of Fine Arts.
As an outcome of four months of residency, the artist establishes a connection with Flemish pictorial tradition by working on its main themes, such as landscape and floral painting, transposing them in a personal interpretation. By doing so, Marco Eusepi sets also a dialogue with the Flemish artist Albert Van Dyck, referring especially the his animistic paintings of the ‘30s, which will be exhibited in the galleries of the museum. Consistent with the research of the artist, Underpainting refers to painting as a complex and stratified system, where pictorial layers keep interacting in a continuous investigation of reality. Sharing an existential need behind the representation of nature, the artist processes it through gestures and material, an internal sight in which geologies of landscape appear on the canvas as a pictorial stratification, a condensation of a lived space.
